I'll get the negatives out of the way early. My cardio is shot. My knees are creaky. My quads are weak. And after a mile I was gassed.
All that said, it was a glorious run this afternoon. 80 degrees and humid so despite the short distance I sweated (and still am) Shea ran beside me (okay, ahead of me, beside me, behind me, we have to work on his form) I had gotten the ok from the doctor this morning and so I knew I was going to go right at it this afternoon. Take it slow he said, and still bike. Do some more low impact stuff. Thats what he said. Ok I can do that. I didnt buy a $900 bike last month for nothing. Plus Kelly and I are definitely doing the 60 miler in October so there's training for that. But running is what I like. More than cycling and steppers and anything else. I like the freedom it gives me and the fact that I can do it anywhere and anytime. I know I have to ease into this and I will. I promise. I am going to stick to 2 miles max for the next month. Build my cardio that way through increasing the speed as opposed to the distance. By later in the summer, I would like to run a 5k. Then in the fall a 10k (I know just the one I want to run too) Then in December I'd like to do the Philly half Marathon. Then if all goes well Boston in 2010. Thats the long term plan (goal) and it wont call for heavy miles right away. I dont want to wind up back in a cast and on crutches. But I do want to run and despite how rough I was, when Shea and I climbed the steps today and stopped at the front door, it felt good. It felt great.
