I met a different doctor this time and to be honest I wish I had met him the first time (although he assures me he would have prescribed the same treatment) Dr Green is a former speed skater and long distance runner (Marathon PR 3:53) who now cycles.
He took my left foot in his hand and said "theres 2 places that are really effected by this." He pinched my ankle and said "Here?" and I said "No" then he pinched THE SPOT and I almost jumped off the table. "YOW!!!" I screamed and he went "Ewww."
Apparently my achilles tendon is still hard too the touch (and fuckin painful if you get me on the right spot.) He said he felt a discernible difference between my right (the healthy one) and my left (the ouchy one)
He tried his best to explain to me what this means then he gave me a boot to wear at night (to keep the achilles from tightening too much) Then he scheduled me for an MRI and a followup visit to take a look at that.
I asked him if there was a chance I might never run pain free again and he shrugged his shoulders and said "sure. . . . a chance." Then he paused and said the cruelest thing he could say (although Im sure he didnt mean it) "You should think about cycling . .. .
