Sports wise this year ends up like my Marathon running: good in the beginning but a tough way to end. The Cowboys just got smoked in their season finale which makes it both the Mets and the Cowboys breaking my heart yet again.
Running-wise this year is ending in a bad way. My left achilles is still slightly sore even after 2 full weeks off. I have made it to the gym regularly and am starting to feel the difference in upper body strength but I am still carrying way too much weight (197) and need to get more disciplined esp if I am not clocking 30 miles a week. I burn 350 calories in 45 minutes on the lifecycle and thats just not enough.
I started this year with some goals and didnt hit them all.
2008 Goals:
Just keep running - Did it
Start some weight training - Joined The Edge and worked out on and off since March.
5 Marathons - did 6
Get my PR closer to 3:30 - no, couldnt trim anything off my PR.
1500 Miles (29 week) - I gave up counting miles in August but I doubt I even did 1000 this year.
Geographically it was a fun year - lots of traveling and lots of running in exotic places. I ran in 14 States (NJ, NY, CT, KS, AL, NV, AR, MD, TN, VT, MA, VA, NC, IL) and 2 countries besides the US (Sweden & Mexico)
Race wise I did 6 Marathons, my best being Chicago in October (3:52:02) I also set PRs in the NJ Half in May (1:41:18) and also the 5k in the Pine Beach in June (20:56) I also ran the George Sheehan 5 miler in June in 37:24, The Pier Village 5k (21:35) plus Kelly and I did the 30 mile bike ride around NYC in October.
My immediate running plans are to give it another week and then try a shorter run (about 5 miles) next Sunday. If I feel ok then I am going to sign up for the New Orleans Marathon on February 1st and see how much I can do in January to get ready.
